Suggest they immediately throw out any catalogs, junk mail, and ads.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> If mail arrives for a family member, place it in a basket. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If they receives bills, put them in a separate bill-paying basket.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Suggest that when your client buys something, that he\/she donate or sell out a similar item.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> For example, if they get a new book, they could donate one of their other books to their local library or to a school library. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This technique eliminates the growth of clutter in your clients home, and also reduce the amount of work in the long run.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Explain to your client that clutter can build up fast. One of the best ways to reduce clutter is to cut it off at its source.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Suggest your client cancel their newspaper or magazine delivery. \u00a0\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Newspapers create a lot of clutter. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explain that the Internet makes it possible to get the news as it happens. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your client can quickly pick and choose what they want to read, instead of being bombarded by similar articles on one page. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explain that their newspaper may even have an online version they can access for free, which would save money and reduce clutter at the same time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check out the library. Instead of buying books or CDs, suggest that your client attend local library and check them out for free.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recommend that your client sign up for electronic bills and statements, which will reduce the amount of mail they receive. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This will also increase the likelihood that their bills don&#8217;t get missed if they end up on a pile on a desk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Keep his\/her bag organized:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your client could find a briefcase or purse with many compartments. A bag with compartments helps could help you find a place for everything.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your client could buy a wallet in a bright color, so he\/she can locate it more easily in their bag.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Suggest your client not change bags too often, as to not lose important items.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clear zippered bags are a great way to compartmentalize items in a purse or attach\u00e9 case. You could suggest your client put personal care items, such as medications, in one bag. Put pens and pencils in another.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-08e6d1b6eace0e90038d2eb1707a9ebd\" style=\"color:#7f33c5\"><strong>Personal Belongings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recommend your client de-clutter their closet:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start with a fresh closet. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recommend your client go through their closet and take out the clothes they have not worn in the past year. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your client could look at every piece of clothing they have taken out of their closet. <strong>Have them ask themselves&#8221;<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>&#8220;Does the item still fit?&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;Does the item have sentimental value?&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;Will they need this item in the future?&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>&#8220;If not, donate it or give it away.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Suggest your client organize his\/her clothing by type. <strong>Have them group the clothes in their closet according to the following categories:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shirts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jackets and blazers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shorts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dresses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skirts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recommend your client use their closet space more efficiently\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grouping items by type reduces visual clutter and makes it easier to find things.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Toss out his\/her wire hangers and use wood or plastic hangers instead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tiered hangers and specialty hangers for belts and ties can help save space<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suggest your client get their shoes off the closet floor using a cubby, rack, or over-the-door organizer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use post-it notes in places where reminders are needed (e.g., <em>\u201cDo You Have Your Keys?\u201d<\/em> by the door, <em>\u201cHave you brushed your teeth?\u201d<\/em> on the bathroom mirror.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-06e5ca5c746d6b24dba891971588c793\" style=\"color:#7f33c5\"><strong>How to Avoid Losing Things <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recommend your client form a \u201c<strong>point of usage<\/strong>\u201d. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The point of usage is the location where your client is most likely to use the item. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suggest your client choose the most convenient location for an item means your client is more likely to put it back there.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A consequence to the point of usage is the<strong> <em>line of sight<\/em><\/strong>. When storing items on shelves, suggest your client put the most frequently used items at eye level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Suggest your client store similar items together increases their chances of finding things when they need them. Your client can group items using containers and dividers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Suggest your client find a home for his\/her things.<strong> Have them ask themselves:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>\u201cHow often do I use this item?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cWhere do I use it the most?<\/em>\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cIs there a better location for this item?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cAre there similar items to store with this item?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encourage your client to gather together similar items that are used in the same location.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encourage your client to hold on to their winter wear.
