{"id":1543,"date":"2020-08-31T15:35:44","date_gmt":"2020-08-31T15:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/resourcelibrary.ucalgaryblogs.ca\/?page_id=1543"},"modified":"2024-03-14T23:40:25","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T23:40:25","slug":"strategies-for-behavior-management","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/resourcelibrary.ucalgaryblogs.ca\/?page_id=1543","title":{"rendered":"Strategies for Behaviour Management"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Whenever possible, problems should be minimized through careful advance planning and rewards to motivate appropriate behaviour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If your client has a temper tantrum and it is possible to ignore their acting-out behaviour without disrupting others, this would be the most appropriate response.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If your client is uncooperative and can be <strong>timed-out <\/strong>on a chair without restraining them, this would be the simplest response to misbehaviour.\u00a0 \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If your client has a temper tantrum and must be taken to another space, this should be done calmly and quietly.\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During the removal, your client should be told that they must be calm in order to return to the group.\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Specific behavioural expectations (\u201c<em>Voice quiet, body still, and hands together,\u201d<\/em>) should be made clear to them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If your client does not cooperate, they should be given clear choices.\u00a0 \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For example:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201c<em>You can watch the others play with the rabbit or you can go to another activity centre.&nbsp;
