{"id":483,"date":"2020-07-22T20:57:28","date_gmt":"2020-07-22T20:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/resourcelibrary.ucalgaryblogs.ca\/?page_id=483"},"modified":"2024-03-13T20:32:26","modified_gmt":"2024-03-13T20:32:26","slug":"resources-that-explain-adhd-to-children-youth","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/resourcelibrary.ucalgaryblogs.ca\/?page_id=483","title":{"rendered":"Client Education about ADHD"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Client and Family ADHD Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-info\">ADHD is a lifelong disorder, and continued intervention and support will be critical.&nbsp; It is recommended that your client continue to educate themselves about their ADHD and how it can impact one\u2019s life, particularly as they make the transition into adulthood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The following suggestions can be used to help your client and their family to educate themselves on ADHD:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encourage your client and their parent to educate themselves around ADHD and develop a conceptual understanding of what it means and how it may be impacting your client\u2019s life. Increasing awareness of strategies to support attention-related challenges is also recommended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is recommended that your client embark on some learning (e.g. through reading or video format), regarding the impact of ADHD challenges in daily life, and strategies that may assist in personal and academic goal attainment.&nbsp; It will be important to develop a good understanding of what medication can and cannot do.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>ADHD Resources and Additional Information<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-error\">Information and resources regarding AD\/HD are available at the Can Learn Society (see website for more information on how to access resources at www.canlearnsociety.ca).
