By becoming a better listener, your client will improve your productivity, as well as their ability to influence, persuade and negotiate.&nbsp;Your client will also avoid conflict and misunderstanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-dc844361028ab20b4cf19a718859f0a6\" style=\"color:#229169\"><strong>Step To Become A Better Listener<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here are some simple steps your client can follow to become a better listener:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pay attention.<\/strong> Give the speaker your undivided attention and acknowledge the message. Recognize that what is not said also speaks loudly.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Look at the speaker directly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Put aside distracting thoughts. Don\u2019t mentally prepare a rebuttal!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid being distracted by environmental factors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cListen\u201d to the speaker\u2019s body language.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refrain from side conversations when listening in a group setting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Provide feedback. <\/strong>Our personal filters, assumptions, judgments, and beliefs can distort what we hear. As a listener, your role is to understand what is being said. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This may require you to reflect what is being said and ask questions.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reflect what has been said by paraphrasing. \u201c<em>What I\u2019m hearing is\u2026\u201d and \u201cSounds like you are saying\u2026\u201d <\/em>are great ways to reflect back.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask questions to clarify certain points.<em> \u201cWhat do you mean when you say\u2026\u201d \u201cIs this what you mean?<\/em>\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summarize the speaker\u2019s comments periodically.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Defer judgment. <\/strong>Interrupting is a waste of time. It frustrates the speaker and limits full understanding of the message.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Allow the speaker to finish.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t interrupt with counter-arguments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Respond Appropriately. <\/strong>Active listening is a model for respect and understanding.
